Our approach to
Needs Assessments and Planning Studies is to bring together a variety
of different kinds of data, including:
Population data, based on recent
census studies and State Department of Finance projections;
"Indicator" data
that are collected and archived by county and state agencies (e.g.,
drug- or alcohol-related arrests, births to teen mothers, school
drop-out rates, etc.);
Group interviews and/or one-on-one
surveys of current and/or potential service recipients;
Group interviews with service
providers and policymakers; and
Reviews of the recent literature,
including other similar studies.
Most members of our
staff have worked on several studies involving each of these data sources,
and we have standardized many of the specific elements of these studies
to increase our own efficiency.
